The Power of Vision
Manifest your future!
By now you have probably heard about manifestation, vision boards and other woo woo techniques for goal achievement. Well before you throw these things in with horoscopes and mercury retrograde, hear me out.
Also if you dig a good horoscope that’s awesome, they can be a great way to self reflect. But don’t let a newspaper clipping from 2009 or a fortune cookie from a first date, dictate whether you change jobs or marry someone. Just saying.
Today I will show you what manifestation actually looks like and how vision boards are THE WAY to reach your goals. This year specifically, I have mastered my boards and it’s no coincidence that this is also the year I have had my biggest breakthroughs.
Here is my physical vision board and goal sheet from quarter 4 of last year!
Check it out!
I have been adding photos, mantras and goals to this same bulletin board since 2016.
At that time my 3 goals were typed on an 8x11 that read:
💲Pay off student loans + car
💸 Get promoted
🤑 Make $100,000 in a year
Can you guess how I was feeling at the time?
I was feeling broke and I was broke. I had just quit my 4th job after leaving school. I had just moved back in with my Dad in Simcoe out of necessity and I had even just borrowed money from my sister to cover my car payment for the month.
Needless to say, I was a bit depressed, very embarrassed, and extremely determined to rebuild myself. So I started with waking up to that bulletin board every day, and reading those 3 goals.
I managed to get a new job at a gym called Movati in Brantford (40 minutes away from my Dad’s). I worked a lot of hours, and listened to podcasts on that drive every day. In 2 years I had accomplished the first two goals on that list.
I was well on my way to goal three in 2020 before Covid hit, but by that point I realized that money mattered far less to me. So when I lost my job later that year I really got an opportunity to self reflect. I reflected on what my career meant to me, what money meant to me and where I truly wanted to go next.
This lead me to the advanced print outs and the board of inspiration you see above.
2023 was the first time I really told anyone about this board and the first year I made my professional goals public. After being let go in November of 2022, I knew I had to make another big change and evolve, which is why I launched C-Potential.
But it didn’t start that way. As you will see below launching a fitness business was going to be a side hustle that I built publicly on LinkedIn. I was going to start that passion project while I completed web course and pursued a marketing job.
It’s funny how goals change, especially as we pursue them, but that is the point. Only when you actually commit to something and delay expectations, can you actually see your true path.
Which is why I have found 3 months goals are perfect in 2 ways.
🔓 It’s enough time to truly commit to a project or goal and see some success
💔 It’s also enough time to know whether you love pursuing the goal or hate it
90 days is the MINIMUM amount of time to decide what is next.
Check out my 90 day professional goals below!
So after a year of making huge strides in both my personal and professional life here is what I have determined are the best structures for vision board success.
Step 1) Make a list of goals, and write some timelines beside them in years or months. The time horizon for achievement may be longer or shorter, but you really won’t know exactly what that looks like until you try. So just pick something.
Nothing is off the table here, but next break them into categories like:
💰Career/ Financial
💡Personal/ Health
🤗 Relationships/ Family
🛑STOP DOING (my personal favourite)
You will review this every quarter and make your vision board from it. Just choose 3 main goals each time.
2) Make a vision board and put it somewhere that will force you to see it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Add photos words mantras etc. and choose the goals that are your top priority right now.
Again my personal approach is breaking big goals into trackable 3 month outcomes. I also have found choosing only 3 main priorities and 3 additional habit changes is the MAXIMUM I can handle in 90 days, but don’t worry these will add up!
Anyways that should be enough for you to get started. Take an hour, turn on some music, and just write. Make it beautiful later… or don’t!
It can start as simple as 3 lines, and gradually turn into life-changing accomplishments :)
