Lean In by Leaning On

I remember when I was 26 and I got my first promotion.

I was ecstatic, I felt like I had finally proven myself to everyone and as a result, I felt like I owed the company something for taking a shot on me. Someone finally saw my
TRUE potential.

So I learned how to manage and I learned how to be a “professional.”

I started using “as per my last email” to communicate 😒

I got caught up in seeking validation from something that would never give it back to me in an effort to “climb the corporate ladder.”

WOOF did I ever lose myself and become unhappy.

Last week for the second time in 2 months I sat down with a client and instead of training we just talked. I needed it more than her if I’m being honest, and the last time I did too.

In both circumstances, my personal life bled into my work and because both of these clients are truly my FRIENDS now, they said hey let’s stop and let’s talk.

You give us your time, energy, and support, let us do the same.

How unprofessional?

How are they going to take you seriously now?

*This ^ is what I tell myself but…

I used to pride myself on composure, and intensity, but I have realized my other strengths are compassion and integrity.

My clients are whole humans, not weight-lifting robots, and I’m not this flawless fitness coach. Sharing our whole selves has allowed us to be honest about where we are at during each session, and now we work even harder, together.

Why? Well because we are working
FOR EACH OTHER not just ourselves and that is POWERFUL.

When you take the opportunity to lean on others it allows you to lean into more challenges. It’s not weak, it’s actually the only way you get stronger. We all need support.

I can honestly say I learn from my clients every day and every session is like this empowering hangout. They get better each day and so do I.

WOW, am I grateful for them.

I have chosen to run my business differently, to prioritize relationships and client results over money and external validation.

I wake up every Monday morning and look at my schedule and say holy shit I can’t wait to hang out with my friends and get
STRONGER TOGETHER.

Last week 3 of my clients set squat PRs (personal records). This week a rowing PR was set, and another client got committed to working out 3x a week instead of 2.

Just because we talk or we have lighter days doesn’t mean we don’t get results, it’s actually the reason why my clients get BETTER results.

Working with me will always be
different.

So here is my non-corporate new slogan

Hire a Trainer. Gain a Friend. Get Results.
