You CAN Eat the Bun
Save yourself the headache, not the 100 calories!
Here is a little hypothetical story to help you stay on track with your eating for the rest of summer🍔
So you and your significant other want to eat healthier at the cottage this weekend but still enjoy yourself.
It’s nice out, summer is almost over, and burgers are on the menu. Both of you have been on a health kick for a few weeks which is GREAT. It started with a free trial of F-45 and almost went as far as a wheatgrass shot every morning (but that was a bit too far).
Now it’s week 3 and you are very happy with your progress, as such you have decided burgers are gonna be that well deserved reward.
But it CAN’T derail you.
So you justify burgers because they are high in protein, they can be homemade with oats and eggs and spices and you will grill them to perfection! Sounds lovely, I'm frankly a bit jealous.
But what are you going to do about the buns?
Damn it if there isn’t some new bullshit keto bun out there to overspend on😤
Should you do MUSHROOM CAPS as the bun instead? That would be what “healthy people” do, right?
WRONG.
DISCLAIMER: Mushroom caps are always a cute idea, but unless you have a gluten intolerance, not a single person will tell you this is a better option, not even the person with the gluten intolerance- sorry Becky you know it’s true.
If you can’t tell, this is going to be one of my HARD messages.
DUDE. BUY THE FUCKING BUNS. They can even be the white ones, I don’t care, and neither should you.
When it comes to rewards, you CAN’T cut them out forever. But you CAN make them count. You CAN enjoy food and still be healthy. Also, carbs are absolutely not the enemy despite what Tik Tok tells you.
100 more calories for your special dinner does not make an ounce of a difference in the long run. But it will be the difference between you staying on track after a long week.
It is about enjoying the moment (AHA) and then always coming back to your balance and long-term goals.
When you deprive yourself of one meal too many, the whole diet house of cards you are building comes crashing down real quick.
I'M NOT CALLING THIS A CHEAT MEAL. I'M CALLING IT LIVING.
Eat well 80% of the time, enjoy yourself proportionately 20% of the time, and don’t stop exercising. Don’t binge booze, brownies, or even Brussels sprouts. Overindulging is the problem, not one homemade burger (even if you add real bacon).
Eat only until you are full, schedule a reward meal 1-2 times per week, just don’t overdo it. You won’t feel you need to overindulge if you are allowed to have a treat again next week. Understand that this health kick is actually a lifestyle change and it needs to be one you can be happy with forever.
Save yourself the headache, save yourself the restriction, eat the 100 extra calories.
Sincerely,
Connor
PS. it’s probably more like 150+ calories, especially with the bacon but it still doesn’t matter 👊
