Play The EGO Song
To me, music is pure magic.
Music has the ability to change our moods, enhance our feelings, and even soften our pain. Music has been a part of the human experience since the early days and as of right now, it has never been more amazing and accessible!
But before I go off on a whimsical tangent about music, I am going to change gears to what I really want to talk about, where the real magic happens.
YOUR EGO SONG.
I start most of my personal training sessions with the same question for my clients
”How are you feeling today?”
On Monday afternoon I had a client who just “wasn’t feeling it” and I said okay well what is your EGO song, let’s put it on.
She looked at me and said “My EGO song?”
I said, “Yes your EGO song… the song that gets you PUMPED, gives you ENERGY, and makes you feel SUPERHUMAN.”
Here are some client examples💪😎
She chose Crazy In Love by Beyonce!
You know the track, it’s a nostalgic banger, to say the least, and really was a great choice for a Monday. Uncoincidentally she turned “wasn’t feeling it” into one of the best workouts we have had together!
So right now I bet you are thinking about what song gets you pumped up and also thinking Connor I love this, but do you really have to use the word EGO?
It sounds kind of cocky and arrogant.
Well, it’s not cockiness or arrogance, it’s self-confidence, and hear me out on this one.
Ego psychology states… that the ego can be defined as the part of the psyche responsible for our sense of self and our ability to interact with the outside world. It is generally thought to be the part of the self that is most closely connected to reality and our sense of self-awareness and self-esteem.
So I see it like this.
Your level of ego decides what you believe you are capable of in this world.
Small ego = low belief in yourself and your potential
Big ego = strong belief you are great, will be great, and deserve to be great
I mean Beyonce literally refers to herself as Sasha Fierce when she performs. She has an ALTER EGO!
That’s badass if you ask me, why aren’t you allowed to be badass?!
Also, EGO is your sense of self, nowhere does it say sense of self in relation to others. So don’t get caught up in thinking it’s arrogance or cockiness because you aren’t putting anyone down by believing in yourself.
This is about YOU and what YOU can achieve.
So next time on your way to the gym turn on your EGO song and turn that…
“not really feeling it” into “totally fucking believing it”
Don’t settle for anything short of incredible!
PS. Bad Mother F*cker is my ego song at the moment and as you would expect, I haven’t had a bad workout in weeks 😉
